Our July 6th business meeting was held in the Nature Center due to the extreme heat. After the business meeting we all visited Connie Maley’s garden for an informal tour. It was a lovely summer night and Connie’s garden was beautiful.

Our August meeting will start at 6:30 in the Pavillion at Silver Lake Nature Center unless the heat continues. Stay tuned for a confirmation of whether we will be inside or outside for our business meeting. Then we will tour a member’s garden. Ellen will be in Florida due to a Family matter so I will let you know whose garden we will tour as soon as I know. If anyone wants to volunteer please let me know!

Sept Meeting

Filed under: Uncategorized — Joann @ 10:39 am

Pam Herschfeld did a wonderful presentation on Renovating a Tired Landscape. We welcomed several new members and guests and had a lively business meeting. On Oct 6th Bob Krayer will give his talk on “The Secrets of the Hive” and we will have an opportunity to buy honey harvested from his local bees.

On Sept 12 we participated in Silver Lake’s Green fest with a table featuring a hands on demo on Lasagna Gardening given by Cathy and a Winter Sowing demo given by Joann. Members donated a lot of wonderful seeds which we gave out at the table.

Our Butterfly/Hummingbird Garden is looking splendid and will be judged by Bucks Beautiful on Sept 18th. We bought a beautiful Pineapple sage plant at the Russell’s garden table and it is just coming into bloom. Lois planted it and it should be in full bloom for the judging. Then at the end of the day the Russell’s table had a lot of perennials left over so they donated about 24 plants to our garden.

Garden Tour 2009 – Last years was a huge success and Eileen Donahue has volunteered to chair the committe this year. She will need some helpers so start thinking about what gardens would be good to include on the tour. Connie mentioned that there is a beautiful garden area behind the NBA Credit Union next to the Bristol Commerce Center Wal-Mart. Gaye told us that Gwen Shrift at the Courier Times wants to hear about the Garden Tour in April so she can plan to cover it in the newspaper.

Meeting with Bob Mercer – We signed our contract for the year and Bob asked if we wanted to expand our roll to include more garden area. I told him we would do as much as we could depending on the amount of volunteers we have available in the Spring. He complimented us on our hard work last year in keeping the gardens at the Nature Center beautiful.

June Flea Market – We discussed how it works and members are thinking about what we might sell at our table.

September Meeting

Filed under: Uncategorized — Joann @ 11:13 pm

It’s been a wonderful summer and our thanks go to Jenny Boccardo and Sheila Kelly for sharing their gardens with us during our July and August meetings. Our September meeting was held on September 2nd and we had Max Burton doing a presentation on Tree Care. Lauren and Pat provided the refreshments.

We learned lots of information about trees and how to keep them in good condition. Trees are shallow rooted and the root flare should be at ground level NOT buried under a “mulch volcano”!

Lauren presented Awards to the winners of the garden tour. Our next meeting is Oct 7th and we have Dave Marable speaking on Figs and Historical Levittown Gardens.
