Renovations to the Butterfly Garden & Summer Events

Filed under: Uncategorized — Joann @ 2:52 pm

We’ve added many new plants to the butterfly garden so come down and take a look at the new additions. The catmint is blooming and the butterfly bushes are filling in with new leaves and buds. The Baptisia is setting seed already and next week Boy Scout Troop # 82 from Our Lady of Grace in Pendel will be coming on June 17th to remove the old railroad ties for us as the first step in giving us a whole new look! They will be back to put in the new ones as soon as the new ones are delivered. This is part of Albert Cheshinski’s work towards earning his Eagle scout badge.
Southern Bucks Garden Club Members have been weeding and working hard to make the garden beautiful again this year. Please remember to sign in or notify Alex or Cathy of your time to give the Garden club credit with the Nature Center.
Jenny Boccardo’s Boy Scout troop will be helping to scrape and repaint the bench as a summer project. Her girls will be weeding, watering and planting flowers during the summer months. They will also add new poetry plaques to the arbor.
The Flea Market will be held June 24th from 8AM till 2PM at Silver Lake Nature Center. Come and bring your items to sell or come down to purchase items. All items purchased from our table will benefit the garden club. See Nanette or Cathy if you have items you want to sell or need any help getting the items to the Nature Center the morning of the sale.

A portion of the Butterfly garden that used to be a compost pile will now be planted with hummingbird attracting plants. Joann will be coordinating the planting of this site. We already have many plants that attract both hummers and butterflies and as Jenny Boccardo our garden designer said “Hummers and Butterflies belong together”
