Eileen’s Virtual Garden Your

Filed under: Uncategorized — Joann @ 1:31 pm

Our area was hit by terrrible storms this week and many of us were without power for long periods of time! Eileen has volunteered her garden to cheer us up. I walk past her front yard many mornings on my daily rounds and it is a glorious site to behold! Come and take a look in our photo gallery at her lovely “Cottage Garden”.

July 11 Meeting Under the SLNC Pavillion

Filed under: Uncategorized — Joann @ 6:40 am

We met under the SLNC Pavillion next to the Butterfly garden and enjoyed delicious haogies provided by Alex and other wonderful treats brought by our members and our hostesses.

We have a full slate of New Officers for the coming year

President Alex McVey
VP Joann Cosgrove
Secretary Nanette Wolfe
Treasurer Pat McGonigle
Program Director Eileen Donahue
Hospitality Chairs Lois Feeney and Pat Ditzler
Public Relations Coordinator Dolly Ferkel
Butterfly Garden Coordinator Cathy Raupp
Trip Planning Coordinator Gaye Almeida

For the next several Thursday evenings from 5:30 till 7PM Jen’s Girl scouts will be weeding, watering and planting flowers in the butterfly garden and helping to keep the area beautiful. They will also be writing and renewing the poetry plaques on the arbor.

The area where the compost pile used to be will be devoted to hummingbird attracting plants. We would like to have an arbor there and Joann will be pricing arbors and reporting back to the club. Members are asked to look in their gardens for any perennial hummer plants they could spare to be planted in the Fall. Suggestions would include things like Bee Balm, Lobelia (Cardinal Flower) Weigela, Foxglove, Liatris, Obedient Plant, Columbine, Phlox, Cannas, Penstemon, Salvia, Daylily, Turks Cap lily, Verbascum, Kniphofia, Hyssop, Chaste Tree (Vitex) Rose of Sharon, Hollyhock. For the arbor we would be using the Trumpet vine that is already growing there and also Honeysuckle the native specie or a Crossvine would be lovely. Any contributions would be wonderful. So far Alex has said we have a $50.00 budget for the arbor.

Winter sowers please keep our garden needs in mind when you make your plans for this winter!

Gaye described several trips that might be nice for the group including Five Mile Woods, and a trip to a Lavendar growing Farm in Upper Bucks County.

We had several visitors join us for the meeting and we are hopful they will enjoy our company and consider membership!

We adjourned and drove the short distance to tour Pat’s beautifull gardens. What a woodland delight they are!

Southern Bucks Garden Club’s Virtual Garden Tour

Filed under: Uncategorized — Joann @ 2:47 pm

Cathy Raupp has volunteered her garden for a “Virtual” tour this week so click on the photo gallery on the left and enjoy a day in her lovely garden. Despite rain and hail her plants have not failed to uplift and inspire the garden spirit this month and we thank her for sharing them with us. As Lady Bird Johnson said “Where flowers bloom there is hope.” and in the Northeast during these difficult days with all the flooding we sure can use a little peace and beauty and a lot of hope!
